The Right Stuff 2: will the National Geographic series for Disney + return with a second season?
The tenth episode, available from Friday 20 November, concludes the first season of The Right Stuff. The series is based on the best-selling novel of the same name by Tom Wolfe, and on the 1983 film “The Right Stuff” directed by Philip Kaufman.

The series is produced for National Geographic by Appian Way, Leonardo DiCaprio‘s production company, together with Warner Bros. Television. The Right Stuff brings to the screen the beginnings of the US space program and the iconic story of the first American astronauts, the Mercury Seven, starting from 1959. Their story, followed by a media hype that made the astronauts celebrities competing for money and fame, constituted the ante-litteram reality show in American history.
The astronauts of the Mercury Program are played by Patrick J. Adams, Jake McDorman, Colin O’Donoghue, James Lafferty, Aaron Staton, Michael Trotter and Micah Stock. The cast of the series is enriched by Nora Zehetner, Shannon Lucio and Eloise Mumford.
Will the Right Stuff 2 be produced?
Those who have already finished watching the eight episodes of The Right Stuff will probably be wondering: will there be a second season? Currently Disney + did not either confirm nor deny any future choice for the series, which means that at the moment The Right Stuff is not canceled nor renewed.
According to Production Weekly Disney seems to have already commissioned Warner Bros. Television for a second season of The Right Stuff, which is therefore already in the works.
The official announcement of the renewal of The Right Stuff 2 has to be expected soon, but at this point it would only be a pro forma.
To date, all the original productions for the streaming platform, namely The Mandalorian, High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, and Diary of a Future President, have been reconfirmed for the second season. This represents a favorable precedent for The Right Stuff, which could win the reconfirmation for season 2 in the face of an offer of original series from Disney + still somewhat desolate.
It also seems that an editorial idea for the following chapters of the series already exists. According to what reported by Deadline in the article that announced the realization of the series, the project of The Right Stuff foresees that the series’ plot will arrive until the landing on the moon made by the Apollo 11 mission on 20 July 1969.
To know what the future of The Right Stuff will be, we will have to wait for an announcement from Disney +. If confirmed, the new episodes of the series would hardly be on streaming before the end of next year, at the earliest.
