The shooting of Fate: The Winx Saga – the live-action series adaptation of the animated Winx Club saga that Netflix is producing with Igino Straffi, creator of the popular Italian fairies and CEO of the Rainbow Group – started in September last year in Ireland, and they are going to finish this December.

Brian Young, famous for his work in other teenage cult like The Vampire Diaries and Kyle XY, is at the helm of the six episodes that form the first season of Fate: The Winx Saga. Young serves as showrunner, while Judy Counihan and Kris Thykier of Archery Pictures (Riviera, renewed by Sky for a third season) serve as executive producers.

The release date of Fate: The Winx Saga on Netflix has been set for Friday, January 22nd 2021.

In the live-action series from Winx Club on Netflix, the six fairies make their debut for the first time in flesh and blood, no longer graphically animated but played by actresses.

On Tuesday, September 17, 2019, the actors who will stage the Netflix original production adapting the Winx Club were announced. Fate: The Winx Saga series stars Abigail Cowen in the role of Bloom. Abigail is known for playing the character of the witch Dorcas in Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, an other popular Netflix original series.

Alongside with Cowen, Hannah van der Westhuysen stars as Stella (The Frankenstein Chronicles), Precious Mustapha as Aisha (Endeavor – The young Inspector Morse), Eliot Salt as Terra (GameFace), Elisha Applebaum as Musa (Carly & Paolo Undercover Hooligan), Sadie Soverall in the role of Beatrix (Rose Plays Julie).

Rounding out the main cast are Freddie Thorp as Riven (A Discovery of Witches), Danny Griffin as Sky (So Awkward), Theo Graham as Dane (British soap Hollyoaks) and Jacob Dudman as Sam (I Medici and The A List, the latter is on Italian Netflix).

Throughout the six episodes, Eve Best (Nurse Jackie – Shock Therapy) also appears as Principal Dowling, Robert James-Collier (Downton Abbey) as Silva, Leah Minto (Normal People) as Kat. Other confirmed actors are Josh Cowdery (Agents of SHIELD), Alexander Mcqueen (Sally 4Ever) and Eva Birthistle (The Last Kingdom).

Over a few years, the Winx Club brand has become one of the most loved and well-known in the world. The animated series has enjoyed great success in the ultra-competitive US television market.

The plot of the Winx Club series remains faithful to the original animated series from which the Winx phenomenon was born.

Inspired by the Italian cartoon, the 6 episodes’ series tells the adventures of five unlikely friends who attend Alfea, the Otherworld college of magic. The protagonists must learn to govern their magical powers as they face love, rivalries and the monsters that threaten their existence.

Since their debut on Rai 2 on January 28, 2004, 182 episodes and 7 seasons of Winx Club – the animated series starring Bloom, Stella, Flora, Musa, Tecna and Aisha / Layla, young fairies grappling with their powers in a school of magic have been broadcasted.

Winx Club becomes a Netflix TV series. The announcement of the live action television series starring the Winx dates back to 14 March 2018.

Winx Club and its six heroines land in the world of live-action productions as a new fantasy TV series created and produced in Italy by Iginio Straffi, founder and CEO of the Rainbow group. Straffi stated that this partnership represents the ideal synergy for the Winx because “Netflix has been able to reach the hearts of viewers all over the world”. Winx Club the series will be distributed by Netflix.

Between 2007 and 2014 three films of the Winx Club universe were released: the first film Winx Club – The secret of the lost kingdom was released in Italy on November 30, 2007. The second Winx Club 3D – Magical adventure film arrived in Italian cinemas on October 29, 2010, also in 3D version. The third cinematic chapter Winx Club – The mystery of the abysses debuted in theaters on September 4, 2014.

It is not the first time that Winx Club and Netflix join forces. In 2016, Netflix distributed World of Winx, a spin-off of the original series focused on the talent show WOW. Netflix is also the platform that internationally led to the worldwide success of Maggie and Bianca Fashion Friends, another Italian production by Rainbow that has become a phenomenon for children and adolescents.

The live-action series Fate: The Winx Saga is a Netflix original production. As such it will be exclusively available to subscribers of the service in the 190 countries where it is active.

Fate: The Winx Saga has six episodes of 60 minutes each. The direction is entrusted to Lisa James Larsson.

The series is produced by Jon Finn. Executive producers are Judy Counihan and Kris Thykier of Archery Pictures, as well as Iginio Straffi of the Rainbow Group. Wild Atlantic is co-producer.
