El Cid on Amazon: release date, cast and plot

El Cid on Amazon release date: 18th December 2020

El Cid – the Amazon Prime Video series was announced for the first time on February 13, 2019.

The debut of El Cid is expected on Friday 18 December exclusively on Amazon Prime Video  in the two hundred countries and territories covered by the service.

Created and produced by Zebra Producciones and written by Luis Arranz and Adolfo Martinez, the show is an ambitious costume series that revisits the life and deeds of Rodrigo Díaz de Vivar, who went down in history as El Cid.
El Cid is among the twenty international Prime Original series confirmed by Amazon back in February 2019.

El Cid series Amazon plot: what is it about?

El Cid tells the story of the most famous Spaniard in the world, a man trapped between two worlds and two cultures. He is a nobleman, a hero, a mercenary, a vassal but also a man who could have been king. El Cid was a very innovative character for his times, and he transcended his own legend. The story is now told by Amazon through a contemporary gaze.

With this show, Amazon intends to recreate on the small screen one of the most fascinating periods in Spanish history. The struggles for power and the coexistence of different cultures have transformed the Iberian Peninsula into a meeting point for two worlds in conflict between them.

The epic coming to Prime Video will reveal the story of Ruy, the man behind the legend, played by the actor Jaime Lorente (Money Heist, Elite). The series will follow his epic journey – from little boy to war hero and king’s squire – in search of his place in the complicated monarchy that seeks to control him.

The Iberian society and its different religious communities will be the back ground of Ruy’s enterprises. Ruy will prove himself capable of winning the admiration and respect of all of them – Christians, Arabs and Jews.
