There will be a season 2 of Alex Rider
Yes. Alex Rider 2 will be realized.
The official renewal by IMDb TV, the free streaming service owned by Amazon already active in the United States, has arrived. The television series based on Anthony Horowitz’s novel saga will have a second season.
The first season of the series was financed entirely by Sony Pictures Television‘s International Production and Worldwide Distribution divisions.
The studio subsequently sold Alex Rider to Amazon, which released it on IMDb TV in the US and on Amazon Prime Video in territories such as Australia, Canada, Germany, Latin America, New Zealand and the UK.
The news of the renewal had initially emerged last June, after the acquisition of the series by Amazon Prime Video.
When does Alex Rider 2 come out
According to some indiscretions reported by the reliable Deadline, the series’ production company Eleventh Hour Films is preparing to start the shooting of the second season.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, the production of the second season is expected to start on January 25 in Bristol, and then continue for 22 weeks until July.
The first take for the new episodes, initially planned before the end of this year, has been postponed due to the inconvenience caused by the global Covid-19 pandemic.
Alex Rider 2 plot: what is it about?
Season 2 will be based on “Eagle Strike,” the fourth novel of the best-selling book series on the character of Alex Rider.
Executive producer and saga writer Anthony Horowitz commented, “I couldn’t be happier with the reactions that Alex Rider’s first season generated, and I’m thrilled that the adventure will have a sequel with ‘Eagle Strike’, one of my favorite stories.“
With its twenty year’ history, the literary saga Alex Rider represents a real gold mine to draw from. The most recent novel, the thirteenth volume entitled Nightshade, was published last April in the UK.
Although the series starts from the second book “Point Blanc“, and the character of Tom (Brenock O’Connor) only debuts in the fifth volume “Scorpia“, the television series about Alex Rider still has at least twelve novels to draw inspiration from.
In an interview with RadioTimes, Anthony Horowitz himself had admitted that the series could go on for many seasons to come. “If it works as a television series, it can continue until the poor Otto Farrant is in his forties,” joked the author.
Cast of Alex Rider 2: actors and characters
The cast of Alex Rider’s second season will feature Otto Farrant (Alex Rider), Stephen Dillane (Alan Blunt), Vicky McClure (Mrs. Jones), and Brenock O’Connor (Tom Harris).
Other actors from the first season that will also be in the cast are Ronkẹ Adékọluẹjọ (Jack Starbright), Ace Bhatti (Crawley), Marli Siu (Kyra), Nyasha Hatendi (Smithers) and Andrew Buchan (Ian Rider).
As for the new faces that we may find in the new episodes, we will have to wait for the first casting announcements.
Alex Rider 2 trailer: is it already out?
Since the season has not been shot yet, there is no trailer available for Alex Rider‘s second season at the moment.
When the shooting starts, we will have teasers from the official channels of the series and the ones of Amazon Prime Video.
Alex Rider 2 episodes: how many are there
The second season will most likely be made of eight episodes, like those of the first season.
Guy Burt wrote the script for the first cycle with the novelist Anthony Horowitz and Jill Green, CEO of the Eleventh Hour production company, also involved as executive producers along with Burt, Eve Gutierrez and Andrea Prochaska. The latter directed the first season together with Christopher Smith.
